Description
Shape can be as useful to find game or slam as points. Splinter bids allow both the responder and opener to show a shapely hand (with a single or a void) with at least game values.
This course will focus on the core concepts of the splinter bid and the continuing auction. 25 Bridge Conventions You should Know, updated version, chapter 11 will provide the base for instruction with supplemental materials provided.
Each week the facilitator will introduce the topic and then participants will bid, play and discuss hands related to the topic of the day. Handouts and hand records will be provided.
Week 1:
Introduction to responder splinter bid and opener’s rebid.
Week 2:
Practice bidding and playing hands.
Week 3:
Opener’s splinter bid and the continuing auction.
Week 4:
Putting it all together.

This course will focus on opening 1 heart and 1 spade and the continuing auction. What does the responder do with a minimum, medium, or maximum hand? How does the opener interpret the responder’s bid? How does the auction continue?
